- Regular and special education students are
to be given the portfolio assessment. For
special education students, assessment is to be
given based on the student’s grade level
placement, not his/her functioning level.
Students that qualify for alternate assessment
are exempt from portfolio assessment.
- Students that enter late in the year must be
assessed within two weeks. If the child comes
from another district, the teacher must
administer assessment. If the child transfers
from within the district, it is the teacher’s
responsibility to ensure that the child has been
assessed. If not, the teacher must assess within
two weeks of entry into his/her class.
- Familiarize yourself with all instruments
prior to administering portfolio assessment. Pay
close attention to the Checklist for
requirements as this is part of Pupil
Progression.
- Writing Sample prompts are only suggestions
unless otherwise indicated in your assessment
packet. You may use any writing sample that you
chose as long as it is scored with the portfolio
rubric. A good idea would be to use a writing
sample from a test, or use this time to begin
your fair entries. Use the first draft of the
fair papers as your writing sample to be scored
with the rubric.
- Follow all administration directions exactly
as they are written in DIBELS and GMADE
assessment manuals. These are standardized
testing instruments and will be invalidated if
they are not followed according to the
administration directions.
- Portfolio testing is not to be used for a
grade. This is for assessment purposes only and
should not be counted as an evaluation tool.
- Spreadsheets are to be given to your SBLC
chairperson by the specified date. She/he will
turn in all spreadsheets for the school.
- Be sure to keep a copy of your spreadsheet
for you records.
